I figured that the best way to stay in touch with everyone during my journeys was to start a blog. I am new to this whole thing so you will have to have patience with me. I wanted to start the first post with the plans for my jouney.
My friend and I will be departing NYC next Saturday and heading off towards Johannesburg. We will will spend two weeks traveling around South Africa before she returns to NYC on the 28th. I will then spend a week in Cape Town before my first project begins.
The first project is in Moshi, Tanzania and the title of the project is community work with children. Here is a description of the project from the organization; "There are a number of projects in the Moshi area that need your assistance. Projects vary from children with disabilities, children whose parent cannot afford to care for them, street children and orphans. Lack of education, culture and poverty create a combination of problems that face the youth of Tanzania. The projects within this project aim to help Tanzania's future - it's children through education, care, counseling and entertainment. There is also a great deal of need for the adults in Moshi to learn conversational English so you may be asked to help in this area too." I will spend 8 weeks in Moshi before I head back to Johannesburg.
From Johannesburg I will head to Swaziland where I will start my next project. The project is considered a "Meaningful Tour" where we will spend time at Kruger National Park in South Africa, we will then be doing community work with children in Swaziland and we will spend time in Mozambique learning about the beach life from the locals. When that 4 weeks is up it will be time to start my journey back to NYC.
My hope is that I will be able to post at least once a week and hopefully with pictures! Looking forward to sharing my journey with you all.
