Chem Chem Nursery

I was just assigned to my project in Tanzania and I am so excited! I'll be volunteering at the Chem Chem Nursery - the details I received are below. Can't wait untill I can send photos - it will make these blogs a little more interesting ;).

I have a few more days before I leave and so much to do. Can't believe it's this close!

TANZANIA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
CHEM CHEM NURSERY

Project Summary
This nursery school has about one hundred and fifty children whose age ranges from 3 to 6 years. It has one classroom and one teacher only. The school is poorly equipped and thus does not cope with the pupils’ needs. Geographically, the school is a four kilometre walk from the volunteers’ house, about 40 minutes.

Activities
On this project you can expect to become involved in a variety of activities including teaching English, numeracy, playing with the children, singing, drawing, sports and games. With regards to the amount of teaching you will do, this depends on the level of need at the school and your level of confidence. You could start the placement by assisting the teacher and working on a one to one basis with the children, teaching them how to read and improving their English and then when you feel confident you can take your own lessons.
